White supremacy is the idea that white people possess inherent superiority to people of colour, that is, that white people are the rightful holders of political, social and economic power and legitimacy in society. It is an ideological system that constructs and perpetuates a racist unequal caste system, where white people are privileged and people of colour are subordinated. Moreover, it is also an oppressive social practice that serves to promote and maintain its own deeply rooted structural racism, based on notions of whiteness being synonymous with normalcy, purity, and superiority.
